Overview

Foong Foong Yong Tau Foo sits humbly along Jalan Merdeka in Kampung Baru Ampang, standing out in a cluster of Yong Tau Foo contenders. This Chinese restaurant is a go-to spot for those seeking authentic, sizeable portions of the traditional Hakka dish. The location is a lively stretch known for several Yong Tau Foo eateries, creating a competitive yet communal food scene that adds to the charm of visiting Ampang.

The main attraction here is undoubtedly the Yong Tau Foo, featuring a variety of stuffed delights such as red chillies, ladies fingers, white tofu, and tahu pok. Each piece is generously filled with fresh fish paste, delivering a clean and mild flavor profile free from overpowering additives. The fillings balance texture and taste well, especially the fried dumplings which combine a satisfying crunch with a subtle umami sweetness from water chestnuts. Soup dumplings offer a lighter experience but may lack the punch some diners crave.

Foong Foong’s emphasis is purely on Yong Tau Foo, with less variety in other dishes compared to its neighboring outlets. This focused menu reinforces the authentic approach, aimed at aficionados who appreciate purity of flavor and texture rather than elaborate accompaniments. The accompanying broth is delicate, enriched subtly with bits of sawi, providing a comforting counterpoint to the stuffed pieces.

The dining space is simple and unpretentious—non-air-conditioned but kept comfortable with ceiling fans. Weekend visits tend to bring bustling crowds, a testament to the brand’s popularity among both locals and visitors. While the atmosphere is informal, attention to prompt service ensures that food arrives quickly even during peak hours. However, parking can be a challenge, reflecting the location’s active food street vibe.

Foong Foong caters well to those who want a fulfilling, traditional meal without overwhelming complexity. The portion sizes are generous, making it ideal for sharing or for hearty appetites. Although limited in side choices, the sheer quality of the Yong Tau Foo itself calls for a simple, focused meal, preferably with rice as the staple. For visitors exploring Ampang’s culinary offerings, Foong Foong Yong Tau Foo remains a must-visit, conjuring the essence of this beloved Chinese comfort food.

Quite nice the fish-paste-fillings of the yong tau fu. All are freshly cooked. But the sweet sauce n chilli sauce kill the dish :/ Not so much of varieties but they are authentic. Only rice to go with, i would prefer to hv some noodles or chee cheong fun to pair with yongtaufu.

When you drive by this place, you cannot help but drop your jaw!!! Three shops in a row - all competing with one another in one dish -- Yong Tau Foo! Ampang Homeland Yong Tau Foo, Orchard View Yong Tau Foo and Foong Foong Yong Tau Foo are all sited just next to each other on a road where parking spaces are almost chaotic and people ask you for money when you park outside their property!! Seriously, i wont be able to tell which outlet to go to if Youtubers like Elmo Lee and Nick Catman hadn't left me some tiis and hints! 1. Ampang Homeland serves Halal YTF 2. Orchard View varies its offerings by adding claypot meats and veggies 3. Foong Foong relies very much on just YTF. We ordered the usual - stuffed red chillies, ladies fingers, White Tahu and Tahu Pok. We also tried both versions of the meat dumplings - soup and fried. The FRIED ones are better because they contain meat and water chestnuts, making them sweet, crunchy and umami-filled. The soup dumplings lack taste and texture. The pieces are big so i hope you dont have eyes that are larger than your stomach capacity. Overall taste is mild(no MSG or salt fish taste) and i love the dumpling soup because it's the only dish that comes with bits of sawi veggies!

Reasonably priced yong tau fu. Food comes very fast after ordering. You must try the fried stuff - they are crispy, warm and juicy on the inside. Parking can be difficult during the peak hours. The yong tau fu portions are huge! Pls try of fish paste for every piece. Highly recommended. Thumbs up! A must try for anyway visiting Kuala Lumpur!

Love the yong tau foo. Came on a weekend and it was crowded but we were quickly seated. Non airconditioned but still comfortable with lots of fans. You order by pieces and every piece is huge including the tofu and dumplings. There will be people hawking their misc items eg keropok and lottery tickets which was a little annoying but it’s fine. Will miss this place!
